Happy December! Yay! It’s my birthday month!! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I can’t believe this year is already almost over.
Finals are coming up which means I’ve been pretty busy. With traveling for the holiday and getting ready to finalize projects, my beauty routine became pretty streamlined. I used a lot of the same products over and over. You may recognize some of the same products from my Face of the Day post earlier in the month.
P.S. Sorry about the weird lighting. All the pictures turned out super yellow because I took these photos right after a big snowfall which created some strange light. I tried my best to correct the colors so they would be more true to the product but I’m still a photoshop novice.
Here’s what I’ve been loving:
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in 5.0 and Finishing Powder in Medium.
This liquid foundation is one of my all-time favorites. It comes in tons of different colors with different undertones so you can be sure they’ll have a color for you. The consistency of this foundation is very thin and liquidy. It allows for a nice light to medium coverage or you can build it up to a heavier flawless coverage that still looks like your skin. I usually use the Sigma Angled Top Kabuki to apply it. Recently I’ve been setting my foundation with this Urban Decay finishing powder which is a very fine translucent powder. It’s called a translucent powder because it doesn’t provide much coverage; however, it does come in different colors so it doesn’t leave a white powdery finish like some other translucent powders might.
Both of these products have a demi-matte finish, meaning they slightly matte but not quite dewy. I was a little nervous trying them out because I have very oily skin and figured the pretty finish wouldn’t last and within a few hours my face would be super shiny (not cute). You can usually ask for a sample at Sephora to be sure you like it before you buy it. I’m one of those people that loves makeup, but I HATE reapplying throughout the day. I can’t say I don’t get shiny after a while, but it’s not awful if I don’t have time to blot or re powder.
Benefit Erase Paste in 2.0 Medium
Being a busy student, I don’t always have time to get enough sleep. That being said, I have pretty dark under-eye circles. I don’t have the issue of puffiness or anything like that but I have a dark shadowy ring under my eye that can be difficult to cover.
The color of this concealer is a pink almost salmony color which may seem weird at first, but I promise it works wonders! The pinkish orangey color is the opposite on the color wheel to the purple dark color of your under-eyes. It cancels it out amazingly. I just apply it with my fingers. It can be a bit sticky so I always set it with a thin layer of powder as I’m setting my foundation(I don’t use this concealer for blemishes). Perfect for those roll out of bed kind of days where you want to put just enough makeup on so people don’t ask you if you’re sick or tell you you look really tired.
Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.
I know. I use a lot of Urban Decay. It’s my favorite. Most of their stuff is amazing. I’ve been reaching for the Naked 2 palette a TON recently. It’s just so easy. You can put any combination of these colors on your eyes and they look great. Or you can use a light wash of any of the colors on their own if you’re running short on time. One of my favorites all over is YDK. I don’t know what it is about this color, on its own it has so many dimensions. It looks like you spent a lot of time creating a put together eye using a different lid, inner corner and crease color. When in reality you just swiped the one all over because that’s all you had time for.
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner (last years holiday limited edition) and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink
I had two favorite ways of doing my eyeliner this last month. The super quick, get out the door way(Smudge Sticks) and my go to gel eyeliner cat eye. Once again, theme of the month, I don’t have time. So on those days I would rim my waterline and tightline(upper waterline) with a Stila smudge stick–any color–for a Kendall Jenner-esque no makeup-makeup look. I got these on super sale about a month ago for $10 for a set of five! They’re normally $20 each. A little pricey for an eyeliner if you ask me.Unfortunately this deal doesn’t exist anymore but I found this year’s set for $25 if you’re interested.
If I have more time I will usually use a gel liner and an angled brush to create a cat eye. My only advice to create the perfect cat eyeliner look is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. I feel like I’ve only mastered this in the last year or two. It takes a couple years of leaving the house with unsymmetrical wings until you get it.
Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara
I received a trial size of this mascara in my September Ipsy Glam Bag. I loved it so much I bought the full size. I felt like I almost had to since they gave me a 50% off coupon code. It’s just so amazing. I don’t even know what to say about it. I’m thinking about doing a favorite mascaras post at some point, this will 100% be in it. Let me know if you’d be interested!
Sud Pacifique Vanille Extreme and Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne
Lastly is the very final thing I put on before I run out the door. These are my two favorite perfumes. Whenever I wear the Vanille Extreme people say something smells like cookies and I’m like, “Oh, yeah…. That’s me.” It’s amazing. The Jo Malone just smells like a crisp, juicy, floraly, delicious nectarine. It’s a bit of a summery scent.
Sadly I’ve gotten a bit tired of both. Which prompted me to mix them! Genius. I’m in love. I’d definitely suggest trying out mixing scents to create a perfect, seasonally appropriate scent. But be careful, both of the scents I tried together are very simple. You don’t want to end up mixing two super complicated crazy scents and end up smelling like a baby prostitute. Moderation is key when testing this out!
I hope you all enjoyed my favorites and have a great December and holiday season!
